The Cold Email Template That Got Me 14 Clients in 60 Days (And the One That Got Me 0)
Honest first. I sent out 4 cold email campaigns over a 60 day window in late 2024. The first one got me 0 clients. The second one got me 0 clients. The third one got me 0 clients. The fourth one got me 14 clients and roughly $34,000 in new business. The difference was not luck. The difference was that I rewrote the email from scratch, with a structure I had never used before, and I tested it on a small batch before sending it to the full list. The first three campaigns all used a template I found online. The fourth campaign used a template I had spent 6 weeks iterating on, based on the failures of the first three. I am going to share both templates, the thinking behind each one, and the specific data on what worked and what did not, so you can skip the 60 day learning curve and get to the working version faster.
The working email I am about to share is the one I have used to book 47 new client calls in the 14 months since. The cold email conversion rate for me is now 4.2% (number of calls booked divided by number of emails sent). The industry average for B2B cold email is 1% to 3%. I am not a marketing genius. I just tested more templates than the average person, and I am sharing the one that worked.

The template that got me 0 clients
This is the template I found online. I have seen versions of it on every cold email blog post I have read. It is the “personalized compliment + introduction + value proposition + call to action” template. It looks like this.
“Hi [First Name], I have been following [Company Name] for a while, and I love what you are doing with [specific compliment]. I am a [job title] who specializes in [service]. I recently helped [similar company] achieve [result]. I think I could help [Company Name] achieve something similar. Would you be open to a 15 minute call next week to discuss? Best, [My Name]”
